Welcome to the Mason J. Press and Review

We are an independently owned, and operated publishing house in Oregon City, Oregon. We edit and publish works in fiction, and poetry in our literary review and for stand alone electronic publication.

Here, we encourage all things creative. Write it out. Sing it out. Snap it out. No matter how you do it, do it. We know that we're our own worst critics and that the white blank page can be a mighty foe to slay. We know that it's hard to start, hard to continue, but we believe that the written work is important.

Go all the way with it. Do not back off. For once, go all the goddamn way with what matters.
— Ernest Hemingway

We read for all genres of fiction, and poetry; but what we really look forward to reading is Science Fiction/ Speculative Fiction. An often underrated genre, we believe that the consideration of the SF genre and the imagination it inspires could progress societal structures, scientific discovery, and save our planet.

Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it’s the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself. ...Science fiction is central to everything we’ve ever done, and people who make fun of science fiction writers don’t know what they’re talking about.
— Ray Bradbury
There’s no real objection to escapism, in the right places… We all want to escape occasionally. But science fiction is often very far from escapism, in fact you might say that science fiction is escape into reality… It’s a fiction which does concern itself with real issues: the origin of man; our future. In fact I can’t think of any form of literature which is more concerned with real issues, reality.
— Arthur C. Clarke

Why donate?

100% of your donation goes to keeping this small business running! We aim to enrich the writing community by giving the writers who wouldn't have a chance of being noticed at a big box publishing house an opportunity to shine and let their work get the attention it deserves. Mason J Press is also dedicated to giving back to the community by tutoring students and assisting teachers. In the future we hope to expand our services to offering writing classes, workshops, and editing services to those within our local community.
